STEPHEN JORDAN Obituary
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Mt. Pleasant Home, 301 So. Huntington Ave, Jamaica Plain on SUNDAY, February 15th at 1pm.
Stephen R. Jordan, 73, of Jamaica Plain passed quietly in his sleep on Sunday, January 11, 2026.
Stephen was predeceased by his parents, Regina Marie Jordan (Kelly) and James Joseph Jordan of Jamaica Plain. He leaves behind his brother James Jordan Jr. and wife Lynn of Wilmington. Uncle of James III, Kaitlyn, and Eileen Jordan. Stephen also leaves behind many friends and acquaintances. He had many loyal friends, some that he had known for over 60 years. If you were a friend of his, you were part of his family and he would treat you and support you as such, if not better. If you were an acquaintance or a caregiver, he would quickly charm you and make you smile.
Growing up, Stephen spent special time with each of his parents. He learned to cook authentic Italian dishes with his mother and to cook juicy and flavorful meat with his father. His father taught him how to use tools and do household maintenance and repairs. He was always grateful for those days; they were gifts that stayed with him for his whole life, and that he shared with others.
His work life included numerous interests and skills. His most notable job was on the Fish Pier with too many anecdotes to recall. He worked at Sullivan Stadium in the bar and met many people as a driver in Boston, such as Sophia Loren. His last job before becoming ill, interestingly, was as a Hospice Nurse.
Stephen could be described as a soft rock. He was a tough and agile athlete who played rugby, football, and baseball, playing for the Falmouth Commodores in the Cape Cod League. Even as a child, he would put himself in harm’s way and stand up to bullies to protect anyone. He was a strong and resilient warrior in battling his medical issues over the past decades; a clear statement of his courage and mental fortitude. As tough as he was though, he was also soft and gentle. He was protective of all vulnerable people, especially the elderly, and a staunch defender of all creatures. Stephen would not hurt a fly; he would name it. He fostered many cats and dogs over the years. It would be his wish that we remember Ruthie, Magic, Tina, Ruby, and all the countless other pets that he cared for and loved.
Stephen was a curious man with many interests, so many that this is just a partial list. He loved music; Cellist Stjepan Hauser, Mario Lanza, John Gary, Motown, Classical and more. He loved sky-watching; birds, the moon, stars, and airplanes. He loved military history; WWII in particular, Korea, Vietnam. He loved cars (Corvettes) and working on them with his friends. He loved and traveled with friends to see concerts, Kentucky Derbies and Super Bowls. He loved the Celtics, Bruins, Red Sox, the Patriots, and Marvin Hagler. And he loved to travel. He circled the globe a few times, taking in diverse cultures and of course, making friends wherever he went. He loved and was a master of trivia. Spending time with Stephen could be an adventure. He always had something to share, most likely chocolate, something to teach, and something to laugh about.
Stephen had a deep respect for Veterans. Every Memorial Day and Veteran’s Day, he would spend hours calling all the vets he knew to say thank you for their service. Stephen’s generosity of heart, time and assets was remarkable. He was modest, always turning attention to others. A truly remarkable and unusual human being who will be dearly missed. Without exception, the world is a kinder and more welcoming place for having had Stephen among us.
