ENGLISH:

Sara Gomez, known to all as “La Abuela” or “Doña Sarita”, passed away peacefully surrounded by her beloved family and close friends on July 9, 2022 in Milton, Massachusetts, after a long life filled with love.

La Abuela was born in Honduras on August 3, 1931 to Simeón Pérez and Magdalena Gómez. When her parents passed away at a young age, she went to live with family until she was old enough to relocate to another city. Is was in that city that she met Gregorio, they had two children together, Ramón  and Faustino. Gregorio passed away unexpectedly at a young age. She later met Pompilio Sánchez and had her third child, José.

La Abuela was blessed with a large and loving family. She is survived by three sons Ramón González, Faustino Gómez (Conchy), and Edgardo Sánchez (Eneida). She was a loving mother, friend, and grandmother to grandchildren, great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild.

La Abuela loved her family, loved living, cooking, gardening, and had a contagious laugh that could be heard from a mile away. She could always be found in her kitchen as she enjoyed cooking for friends and family. Her family, however, was her biggest source of joy; she devoted her life to her family. La Abuela made friends everywhere she went, and was loved by so many. She was also a faithful and spiritual woman who listened to praise and worship songs. She leaves a legacy of faith and kindness to be paid forward by those whose lives she made better with her smile and laughter.

A special note of gratitude to her sons, daughter-in-law, Conchy, and granddaughters, who fiercely advocated for her well-being and healthcare throughout her life.  The family would also like to acknowledge Boston Medical Center and the compassionate staff at the Seasons Hospice & Palliative Care in Milton, Massachusetts.

A gathering to share memories of La Abuela will be held from 5pm to 8pm on Wednesday, July 13, 2022 at the Mann & Rodgers Funeral Home, 44 Perkins Street, Boston, Massachusetts 02130. La Abuela will be laid to rest in her native Honduras, so we ask that no flowers be sent at this time.
