March 18, 2021 8:30 AMWe know Bob because we first knew Irena as a fellow librarian at the Boston Public Library. The BPL was one of Bob's favorite haunts and he was a frequent visitor to the Humanities Reference Department where Irena and I worked in the early 2000s. He decided that Irena was a particularly attractive, interesting and winning personality and he decided to pursue his chances with her and eventually won her to a partnership that lasted until his death. Bob had three loves above all others. First was Irena of course. Then came two others: a long-standing love of movies and Broadway musicals, and a more recent love of their cats, particularly Bogo, whose name was taken from the first two letters of Bob's first and last names. I particularly loved to hear Bob talk about the old Boston. He grew up in Back Bay near the Christian Science Church and was happy to tell me about his neighborhood, particularly the old movie theaters that had long since disappeared and where he developed a life-long passion for movies, along with other interesting anecdotes which should have been collected in an oral history but sadly was not. Bob was above all a very decent man and will be very sorely missed.
