JUDY, Philip F. of Jamaica Plain
Philip Frank Judy was born March 31,1942 in Milwaukee and died peacefully on March 17,
2026 after a long journey with progressive supranuclear palsy.
He is fondly remembered by his wife Karen, son John and his wife Anna, son Lawrence
and life partner Amanda. And Pauline Judy, wife of Ken and nephew Paul Judy of Wisconsin.
Philip lived with and survived his mother Adelaide Merkleyand father Opal B Judy and bother
Kennith in Waukesha in Wisconsin.
Early on he became interested in trains and N gage model railroading and
continued this interest later in life. His interest in his family name “Judy”
and ancestry lead him to learn his ancestors were originally from Basel,
Switzerland settled in Virginia area in the late 1770’s. Philip has continued
contact with his distant relatives in Alabama.
Philip shared his love of travel, railroads and photography. The family
enjoyed many vacations in the US and beaches in Harwich on Cape Cod.
Philip graduated with a BS at the University of Wisconsinan Milwaukee. Received his
PhD in Medical Physics at the University of Wisconsin in Madison and continued there as
research fellow. He began his career in Boston as Director of Physics in the Department of
Radiology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. Later became an Associate Professor at
Harvard Medical School. He was noted for his quiet and thoughtful interactions with all his
colleagues.
His early work was in the development of techniques to measure bone mineral changes using
dual energy radiation beams. And holds a patent with NASA in this work. Later Philip to
become active in the development of CT scanning and delivery. He continued to make
contributions in image analysis primarily in the assessment of the radiation dose and image
quality. And studied the perception of disease in radiographic images reviewed by radiologists.
A gathering of family and friends on Monday April 13,2026 will be held 3 to 5 PM
