John O'Brien, 71, passed away on March 19, 2025, in Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts. Born on February 26, 1954, in Brighton, Massachusetts, he was the son of the late John C.O'Brien and Stasia M.O'Brien, formerly of Jamaica Plain.

John was a man of intelligence, humor, and deep dedication to his family, friends, and colleagues. He pursued higher education at the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania, earning dual degrees in Economics and Labor Relations. His academic achievements laid the foundation for a distinguished forty-year career in business and technology. Over the last two decades of his professional life, John focused on 2D barcode technology and its applications to business systems. Throughout his career, he held various executive positions, including CEO and CFO roles, demonstrating his leadership and expertise in solving complex business challenges.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, John had a passion for wildlife photography and birdwatching. He found joy in capturing nature's beauty through his lens and spent countless hours observing birds in their natural habitats. His love for technology extended beyond his career into personal interests as well. Additionally, he enjoyed ballroom dancing-a pastime that reflected his appreciation for rhythm and movement.

John is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years, Britton O'Brien; his brother James Michael O'Brien and wife Lynne O'Brien of Peabody, MA; his sister Karen A.V. O'Brien of Dedham, MA; nephews Matthew James of Peabody and Brandon Michael of Peabody; as well as nieces Erin McGinnis Collier and husband Hank Collier of Wichita Falls, TX, and Rebecca McGinnis of Watauga, TX.
