KEANE, Edward J.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Edward J. Keane, affectionately known as "EK," on February 6, 2025, at the age of 74. Edward was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Edward was the devoted husband of Joanne (Vakalopoulos) Keane, a lifelong resident of Jamaica Plain. He was the proud father of daughter Pauline Zagame and her husband Mark of Kennesaw, GA, and son John P. Martel and his wife Kelley of Franklin, MA. Edward was the cherished grandfather of Tyler, Cole, Shannon, Emily, Matthew, Joshua, and Delia. He was predeceased by his loving aunt and uncle, Sonny Stewart and Marjorie Ester.

Edward had a long and rewarding career, spending 40 years as a bartender at the Old Stag Tavern, The Galway House, and American Legion Post 76. In his later years, he worked as a security guard at Kennesaw State University in Georgia, Boston Children’s Hospital, and Boston Architectural College. Throughout his life, he was known for his warmth, love of people, and skill for telling stories that brought laughter and joy to all.

Even through his long battle with cancer, Edward remained an inspiration to those around him. His positivity and good spirits never wavered, and he continued to spread light and love to others despite the challenges he faced.

A true dog lover, Edward found great joy in the companionship of his furry friends, especially Moose and Freddie. He also enjoyed a variety of hobbies and passions, from hunting in the Berkshires in his younger years to fishing with his son and grandchildren in later years. He also found great satisfaction in tinkering around the house and taking care of others. Above all, Edward had an unconditional love for his wife and children, and he treasured every moment spent with his family, especially at the beach or on the water, where they made cherished memories together.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, February 11th, from 4–8 p.m. at Mann and Roger’s Funeral Home, 44 Perkins Street, Jamaica Plain, MA.

Edward’s life will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, and devotion to those he loved. He leaves behind a lasting legacy of cherished memories, and his presence will be deeply missed.
