David Spinney 1928-2019
Danvers- David Spinney, 90, of Danvers, MA, passed away the morning of June 11th at the Kaplan Family Hospice House with his loving daughters by his side. He was the beloved husband of the late Nancy E. Spinney. Born in West Concord, MA on September 9, 1928, son of the late Millage and Beatrice (Thompson) Spinney, he was raised in Concord and moved with his family to Allston and then to Cambridge.
He was a classic New England Yankee character. He grew up poor in the depression, and at 16 snuck into the army to catch the end of WW2. He was a struggling artist long before it was fashionable. He attended the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in Madison, ME and went on to attend the School of the Museum of Fine Arts. Not one for bibles or stories of heaven, at the very end we talked about Rembrandt and Vermeer and listened to his favorite Big Band musicians.
David is survived by his daughters, Pamela J. Spinney and Amy D. Richard and son-in-law Seth D. Richard and his grandson, Nathaniel Levi Spinney.
Burial service is private and will be held at the Gardens at Gethsemane. In lieu of flowers, donations in David's memory can be made to the International Child Art Foundation.
Mourners can donate online at https://ICAF.org or mail their check to: ICAF, PO Box 58133, Washington, DC 20037.
