BENILDA VASQUEZ Death notice

Benilda “Benny” Vasquez, age 94, from Worburn, (formerly Jamaica Plain), passed away August 31, 2022, due to lung and congestive heart failure. She was with her children, each by her side. She was born August 28, 1928, in Guican, Colombia to Calixto Angarita and Maria (Leal) Angarita. She was the 4th child of 11 and was predeceased by seven of them. She married the love of her life, Lino Vasquez in 1964, who preceded her death in 1974

.Benny is survived by her sisters Maria Pastora, and Maria De Jesus, and brother Antonio, her son Jose Vasquez from Woburn (formerly Jamaica Plain), and her daughter Lucia Vasquez from Burlington (formerly Pelham, NH and Jamaica Plain), and her grandsons, Dario, and Victor. She also had many nieces and nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews.

Benny was a woman of immense faith. It brought her peace to pray every day and be grateful for everything around her.She had a very generous heart and loved to cook and take care of everyone around her including her children most of all. She so loved her grandchildren who were so special to her in their own unique way. She took care of Dario every day and he was a great companion to her as well. He loved giving hugs and kisses to his “Grammy”. She was also so proud of Victor. When he was born, she didn’t think she would be alive long enough to see him go to kindergarten. She surpassed that, as was able to see him go to grammar school, high school and now college. She was also a huge fan of the Red Sox and Bruins and was known to get feisty during the playoffs.

She loved to welcome everyone into her home and give them a good home-made meal. She made so many wonderful foods but did not want to give anyone “complete” recipes. Those were special to her. Meals would be followed by her “stories”. She had so many stories and loved to reminisce.

Upon arriving from Colombia many years ago, she held many jobs. She did anything to support her children so that they could have a good education. Her most recent job which she had retired from, had been as a Nurses Aid at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in the Orthopedics Unit, a position that she was so very proud of.

Please join us celebrating her life on Thursday, September 8th between 4:00 – 7:00 at Mann and Rogers Funeral Home, 44 Perkins Street, Jamaica Plain, MA. A Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Name  Church in West Roxbury at 10:00 on Friday, September 9th.
