HODGERNEY, FREDERICK A. lll passed away on the morning of September 15, 2018 from respiratory and cardiac illness. He was 78 years old.
Brother of the late Carol Ann Davies and Uncle of Ronald & Donald Davies.
Fred grew up in Spencer, MA. Following high school he entered the U.S Navy where he served six years. There he trained as a surgical technologist and had the opportunity to travel to many countries. Following his service, Fred returned to Massachusetts and applied for a job at the New England Baptist Hospital. He was hired on the spot to work in surgical technology and during his four decades at the Baptist he worked for many years in the operating room and later became manager of central sterile processing. He retired in 2003, keeping many dear friendships that continued throughout his life.
Fred lived in Boston for more than 40 years at the Charlesbank Cooperative. At the time of his death, he was serving his fourth term as its president. He loved the building which is a unique, affordable resident-owned co-op, and was dedicated to seeing its mandate fulfilled for current and future generations. During his previous two year term, Fred worked diligently to see the building’s large and complex renovation project through to completion and he took great pride in the final result.
It was perhaps during Fred’s time in the U.S. Navy that he became a worldly kind of guy, appreciating international travel, as well as art, music, excellent food, fine things and especially the theatre.
There will be no funeral service but a memorial event for Fred will be held at the Charlesbank at a later date where his life will be celebrated by his many friends.
